"Every writer's journey to a unique voice is punctuated by a few magic moments. One such moment in my journey was McKenna's Impact of Style class. I recommend it to all writers, from novice to expert."

  • What Do We Teach
  • In our writing courses, we teach the process by which writers translate abstract thought into the written word. This process fuels writing that is memorable, whether you are writing fiction or non-fiction, personal memoirs or essays, or technical reports and manuals.
  •
  • Second, we show that words have hue and intensity. Writing that is memorable stirs the emotions of readers through the careful selection of just the right word.
  •
  • Third, we teach a wide variety of narrative structures and their impact upon pacing and rhythm.
  •
  • Each student exits our courses with a strong understanding of the writing process and the tools necessary to further develop his or her writing.
  • Who Are We
  • To Write Well is a private, educational organization founded on the belief that memorable writing is not a mystery, but a process of discovery; that it does not belong to a privileged few, but to those who have a desire to express their thoughts clearly.

  • Why Study With Us
  • We go deeper than the usual workshops of genre, scene and setting, character, dialogue, plot, and point of view. We focus on language -- that is, tension, pace, rhythm and cadence, music, voice, and figures of speech. Skilled writers, modern or ancient, mastered these elements. So should you. Only then can the richness of your unique style and voice emerge.
